Bad Wolf developing A Discovery of Witches

Discovery_Of_Witches_gl_30s_320x480Bad Wolf, the production company formed by Julie Gardner and Jane Tranter, is working on an adaptation of Deborah Harkness’ A Discovery of Witches, the first of the All Souls series.

According to Deadline, the screen version will be adaptated by Life on Mars’ Ashley Pharaoh, with Harkness herself set to pen some instalments. The book follows Diana Bishop, a young scholar at Oxford who is a descendant of the Salem witches. When she accidentally unlocks an enchanted manuscript, she is compelled to embrace the magic in her blood and enters a forbidden romance with charming 1,500-year-old vampire Matthew Clairmont.

Bad Wolf only have TV rights to the series; Warner Bros. acquired the film rights not long after publication of the book in February 2011. The company is currently working on a small screen version of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials sequence.
