The 27 year old actor was killed in a fatal collision early Sunday morning, his publicist, Jennifer Allen confirmed to the Associated Press. According to the LAPD, his car rolled back into him at his home in Studio City.
Yelchin started with small roles in indie films and various television shows, before breaking out in films like the crime thriller Alpha Dog and the teenage comedy Charlie Bartlett. His biggest role to date was in the rebooted Star Trek films — the third of which, Star Trek Beyond comes out in July.
Yelchin, an only child, was born in Russia. His parents were professional figure skaters who moved the family to the United States when Yelchin was a baby.
“I feel really lucky,” Yelchin told SFB’s Paul Simpson back in 2009 about working on Terminator and Star Trek . “The thing I’m so proud of is that they’re two totally different franchises. The two worlds and the two characters couldn’t be more different. Yes, they’re both in the realm of science fiction, but you’ve got the bleak apocalyptic environment of Terminator, and the unity and the better future of Star Trek. They were two totally different parts to play: two different movies, two different filmmakers and casts. I’ve been really lucky to play two iconic characters. I’m really honored to be a part of both these things.”
