RIP Trumpton creator Gordon Murray

trumptonGordon Murray, whose creations Trumpton, Camberwick Green and Chigley, formed a key part of many genre fans’ childhood, has died at the age of 96.

Murray formed an independent production company after working for the BBC, creating Camberwick Green in 1966, Trumpton a year later and Chigley in 1969. Only 13 episodes were made of each show, but they have been repeated regularly. They were the basis for one of the best-remembered scenes in Life on Mars, as Sam Tyler hallucinates.

Cleaned up copies of the episodes were recently prepared after Murray found original footage in his attic in 2012.
