Toby is injured during an incursion, and Evan and Dylan must find a cure…
And so we’re into the endgame for this first season, with the end of the episode leaving all of our heroes in some form of peril (although I’m not totally convinced that we needed the flash to each of them just before the ‘To be continued’ screen came up – it was blindingly obvious!)
It seems as if Ken Leeds is still trying to run with the hares and hunt with the hounds; this can only lead to further disaster and although I have faith in Horvath and Wood’s ability to surprise us, there can only be so far that Leeds can go before he completely runs out of options.
As for Evan, it’s interesting what we don’t see in this episode – notably what happens when Dylan is in the mad scorpion landscape and he’s elsewhere. I did wonder if we were going to end up with two of him running around in 2006, before he turned up to save Dylan…
Mac’s relationship with Toby is all the stronger for us not being beaten over the head with it constantly, and their little side project is hopefully going to bear fruit (particularly as we, the audience, know what’s being going on in the UK…)
And ‘the wood between the worlds’ makes an appearance – fans of C.S. Lewis’ Narnia books will recognise the inspiration for this anomaly terminus, which throws open some really interesting possibilities.
Verdict: A great lead into the season finale. 8/10
