Review: Primeval Series 3 Ep 6

When Christine Johnson makes her power play for the ARC, Danny and the team hide out perilously near an anomaly…

One of the fastest moving episodes of any British TV show this year, let alone this season of Primeval, kicks off with Danny testing the ARC security and doesn’t let up – save for a few scenes setting up next week’s episode.

The action sequences include a car chase, a cottage coming under siege from a group of maddened out-of-time super-ostriches, and a pursuit across a minefield, all of which are cut together breathlessly. There’s some misdirection in the teaser which hints at a time travel element that would be taking Primeval into yet another new continuum, but luckily this isn’t the case.

The Lester vs Johnson battle ramps up as well, with the latter taking over the ARC and making some rash assumptions as she does. Ben Mansfield gets some good material to work with as Becker, taking him beyond the “soldier boy” with which Danny Quinn taunts him

Verdict: There’s a bit of credibility-stretching coincidence, of course, and a sad lack once again of one of the key players, but there’s not likely to be a more entertaining hour this week. 8/10
