Warehouse 13: Review: Season 4 Ep 1

Syfy, 23 July 2012

The warehouse has been destroyed, and H.G. Wells and Mrs Fredericks are dead… but Artie may have a ticking solution up his sleeve…

It was clear from the apocalyptic climax to last season that there would be a magic ‘restore everything’ get out that would return the warehouse to existence (after all, the show is named after it!). The fun in this episode was discovering exactly how that would play out (perhaps in a more convoluted style than may have been expected) and in discovering what the cost might (Artie seems to be facing a dark future as a result).

There’s a MacGuffin that’ll save the day, there’s a race against time, and there’s a chance for each of the team members to sacrifice themselves in pursuit of the greater good. Perhaps guest star Brent Spiner was a little under-used, but it seems his doom-mongering priest will be back in subsequent episodes.

Artie’s actions in restoring the warehouse, combined with Claudia’s resentment over the death of Steve Jinks looks set to create a nice conflict within the warehouse team this season, although it is hopefully less predictable than the season trailer suggests…

Verdict: Back with a bang, and with new places to go…
