Wizards vs Aliens: Review: Series 3 Episodes 3 & 4: The Quantum Effect

WVA 3.4Still reeling from an invitation to come to MIT in the States, Benny’s help is requested at the Brook Mill radio telescope…

Inevitably, this second story isn’t on quite as large a scale as the season opener, but that doesn’t mean it’s any the less effective, and gives us a chance to learn a bit more about the seductive and manipulative Lady Lyzera. It’s great to have Tom Bell back on the show as Jathro 15 (and in human form for much of the time) – his punishment means that we’ll hopefully be seeing a lot more of him – and I trust that Cherie Lunghi is going to be turning up in future stories. Her character’s relationship with Annette Badland’s promises some fireworks if she does.

However, as the producers pointed out, you may well need a box of Kleenex ready for the ending of this episode, which is a brave step away from what’s been established within the series. You believe for much of the story that Benny will change his mind about leaving and heading to America when he sees how much Tom is going to miss him, but it’s the right move for the character. The show has been built around the great chemistry between the two leads, and it’ll be very interesting to see how things change when Percelle Ascott is no longer around – the final scenes between him and Scott Haran show both actors at their best.

Verdict: It’s the end – but it seems the moment has been prepared for. 7/10
