Review: Primeval Series 4 Ep 3

The team meet a human who travels through anomalies, and Philip underestimates Connor…

We start learning more about the various underpinning agendas for the new characters this episode, with some interesting revelations about the mysterious Gideon, and Philip letting some details slip about a project that nobody else knows about. Add in a new idea for Primeval  with a group of anachronistically dressed humans  who appear from an anomaly in a theatre, and the show’s starting to head off in new directions – although you do wonder how much all three are linked.

What’s been good so far about this season is that episodes can’t be easily labelled as “Primeval does [insert name of well-known genre movie]”, as too often happened before (although the name of Philip’s project will strike fear into those who remember the Who story Invasion of the Dinosaurs!)

Among all the usual running around, there are some nice character moments – Connor’s password; Jess’s chiding of Matt when he doesn’t respond to an alert, and an argument between Becker, Connor and Abby about breaking the rules, in particular.

Verdict: With so many new faces, and the show’s penchant for knocking off members of the team (Steven, Sarah, Nick Cutter), there’s a heightened sense of danger since you can’t be 100 per cent certain that everyone really will survive to next week’s episode.  8/10
