There’s not quite so much epic action in this week’s instalment of Agent Carter, although there is a great fight scene for Hayley Atwell (sadly not counterpointed with some Captain America radio material – an aspect that was unfortunately missing completely). The focus is more on character: we learn something about Edwin Jarvis’ background, and what prompts his incredible loyalty to Howard Stark, as well as seeing behind Peggy’s apparently invincible façade.
One of Peggy’s colleagues pays the price for her investigations (and of course Peggy can’t reveal in any way her involvement) – and eagle eyes spotted that his killer apparently was a woman… which makes me wonder about the importance of the new lodger introduced at Peggy’s boarding-hotel. The problem with there only being eight episodes in the season is that everything has to have some purpose – there simply isn’t enough time to create numerous red herrings. The introduction of the Constrictor was incredibly unsubtle: it might have been better to have learned something of it a bit earlier than five minutes before Peggy needed in a fight!
Verdict: Two steps forward, one step back for Peggy and Jarvis as the agent realises this is going to be a tougher job than she realised. 7/10
